JOIN THE HONOR ROLL OF THOSE WHO LIVE BY GOD’S PURPOSE

By Larry Fayer

As the final lesson in this series on God’s purpose I would remind you of what we have said:

(1)  God does not make anything haphazardly.  As precisely as He made your body He has a plan for you.

(2)  It is a common thread in Scripture that God has a plan and He purposes human beings to carry out that plan.

(3)  God had, and continues to have, a purpose in mind.  That is to save as much of the world as will receive Him.  He put His purpose into action by allowing His Son to die for us and to establish His church.  Those who are Christians are a part of His church and a part of His purpose of providing salvation to the world.  THAT IS GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOU – TO BE A PART OF HIS PURPOSE TO SAVE THE WORLD!

(4)  God’s purpose for you may not be a specific as you would like.  You are not going to find your name and a set of commands in the Bible.  God is not going to zap you so that you know how you fit into His purpose.  But you can know it.

(5)  You find your purpose by finding God’s purpose and then figuring out how you fit into it.  That is called submission.  When you understand God’s purpose (to save the world through His church preaching His gospel) and the gifts God has given you, you will know what God’s purpose for you is.  Go to work serving that purpose with all the strength God gives every day of your life.

You can find and live out God’s purpose every day as many others have done.  There is an Honor Roll of those who found and lived God’s purpose.  Here’s a list of some of them:

*  JOSEPH:

“For God sent me before you to preserve life” (Genesis 45:5).

“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).

*  ESTHER:

“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).

*  DAVID:

“I have found in David, the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do my will” (Acts 13:22).

*  ISAIAH:

“Here am I.  Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8).

*  JESUS:

“Yet not what I will but what you will” (Mark 14:36).

Wouldn’t it be great to end life as David did?  “For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers” (Acts 13:36 ESV).  The beauty of it is that you can!  May God bless your efforts to understand His purpose and live within it.
